Email marketing is not dead. It can still be as effective as ever, if you do it right.
I’ve been marketing online full-time almost since the start of the Internet. Email marketing has always been a key part of my success.

Many people do not get the results they hoped for with email marketing.
Usually because they have not learned and followed the critical steps to success with email. And they have not changed things up as email marketing has evolved.
So, based on my decades of experience, here’s a checklist of the things you must do to have real success with email marketing.
Email marketing is not dead – you must do this…
You must build, maintain, and use your own email list.
Do not make the mistake of relying on something like that daily leads system that mails for you. I tried it twice. The leads were awful.
You want to have your own email list that you maintain and control. Do it right and it will be your most valuable marketing asset.

You will need an excellent email autoresponder. That’s the program that manages your email list and sends out emails.
There are many to choose from. I have used several. Be aware that performance varies widely. Some even restrict what kind of business you can use it for.
There are only a couple autoresponders I would even consider using, and one I personally have used for years and highly recommend. It gives me the best email deliverability and has some powerful automation features too.

Be sure to set up the autoresponder properly. It will have videos to walk you thru that.
You will also need to get your own domain to mail from. Gone are the days of sending email from Gmail or Yahoo addresses.
Writing good emails is critical
Next you need the actual emails you will send out. Writing good emails takes a while to learn.
You need powerful subject lines to get the mail opened, high converting body copy, and effective calls to action.
Plus the emails must be written so they avoid spam folders and end up in inboxes.

And be sure you are always delivering value in your emails. If all you do is pitch and sell, you will never have big success.
Then you are ready to generate subscribers for your email list.
To do that, you need a good lead capture or landing page. I design them myself using our funnel builder tool. You can do it too. It’s easy and only takes minutes.
Do not make the mistake of buying leads and importing them into your autoresponder.
They will never be as responsive as the ones you generate yourself, and may even get you into trouble with your autoresponder company.
Success is more than just sending out emails
Then you are finally ready to start mailing.
You will need to monitor your numbers regularly. Watch email open rates, click thru rates, and conversions. Test and fine tune your mailing frequency and time of mailing.
And then lastly, be sure to clean your email list regularly. Be sure you are always mailing to active subscribers who are reading your emails.
